About the Project
The Texas 2 Step project is run by Harris County Veteran Services Department (VSD) staff members. Many of us whom are veterans, firearm enthusiasts, and have seen our friends die by suicide. There is a better way, but it takes a community.
We know first hand from our own experiences, and from our work, how challenging it can be to transition back to the civilian world. However, with loved ones, family, friends and fellow veterans, we can help just a little bit at a time.
Sometimes those closest to us want to help, but also just don’t know how to. The Texas 2 Step project aims to help loved ones and family members of at-risk veterans to take action. The VSD staff members are happy to help, but we can’t do it alone, so we want to pass on the knowledge to those closest to the veteran to immediately help.
Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant
This project is funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant.
SSG Fox SPGP honors Veteran Parker Gordon Fox, who joined the Army in 2014 and was a sniper instructor at the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia. Known for a life of generosity and kindness to others in need, Fox died by suicide on July 21, 2020, at the age of 25.
This allows us to provide services to our community with the goals of directly helping veterans in need.
Call us, email us, or contact us via our intake portal to speak with our staff today. You can even contact us if you are a veteran’s family member or loved one to help with their situation.
